Your drawing should be a fairly accurate representation of how much your eye can see when observing even without a telescope. This exercise has not only helped you start to map and familiarize yourself with the Moon’s surface, it is also an exercise that gives you a bit of practice in drawing at the telescope. The view of the Moon with the naked eye is an image somewhat similar in size to that of some of the planets when seen magnified by the eyepiece through a telescope. So this exercise will give you some excellent practice at drawing what you can see when looking through the telescope. Using this technique of drawing at the eyepiece will enable you to reproduce what you see for future reference when observing the planets.
